Mindful Business Tips on Managing Your time & Energy in 2019

Join Business Expert Kathy Hanson for an interactive workshop on how to find the time and energy to do more of what you love in your business and in your personal life. It’s not about putting MORE on your plate- it’s about portion control! Seriously. We don’t need to do more, we just want to finish what is already on our To Do list.

During this fun and engaging workshop you will learn how to be more mindful about spending your time and expending and renewing your energy. Kathy wants you to be able to work on the stuff that’s important and meaningful to you and your business. Let’s kick start this new year with a healthier perspective about taking control of our own busy schedules and energy levels.

"I speak, coach and advise clients and audiences about how to be more proactive leaders, negotiators and effective communicators so they can have a more manageable, successful and sustainable work life.

Many busy professionals struggle with the false premise that everyone else can do it all i.e., effortlessly balance work and life. My passion is to help professionals and entrepreneurs realize they are not alone in trying to figure it out. We all wish we had more time, energy and money. You aren’t alone in the struggle to find more time, energy and money at work and at home. You have me #inyourbackpocket" - Kathy Hanson

Death to Reply All: Cleaning Up Your Digital Communications

Messaging, email, text, social media: our personal/professional communications rarely involve a physical paper trail these days, but that doesn't mean it can't get messy. There is an art (and an etiquette!) to making your asks and sharing your thoughts in the digital world. And so often, we don't realize we have bad habits that are driving our audience batty. This workshop gives participants the tools and techniques necessary to ensure that your message is clear, audience-focused, to the point, and not misinterpreted - regardless of the medium.

Homebuying 101: Claim Your Economic Power and Close the Gender Wealth Gap

Homebuying 101: Claim Your Economic Power and Close the Gender Wealth Gap

Women are building equity and wealth in real estate at a faster pace than any other demographic in the country. Single women are buying homes at more than twice the rate of single men. Single women also make up the second-largest segment of homebuyers after married couples (in which women tend to be the majority influencer in homebuying decisions). More women homebuyers leads to a changing economic landscape and shapes the way wealth accumulates. Building equity is building power – and women are building it at record rates.

Dreaming of a place to call your own? At this (free!) townhall, we’ll talk about how home ownership can build wealth, and share the important steps to homebuying for renters and first time buyers. No dry spreadsheets – just real questions and answers. We’ll talk through financial readiness and financing options, the offer process, and current market conditions.

Join us for drinks and bites. Bring all your questions - this will be a fun and interactive Q&A format.

Speakers:

Amanda Buhman, Leah Drury and Jill Numrich, Realtors, Urban Nest team at Lakes Sotheby’s International Realty

Allison Shaw, Mortgage Lender, Waterstone Mortgage

Allyship is not an identity—it is a lifelong process of building relationships based on trust, consistency, and accountability with marginalized individuals and/or groups of people. Are you a true ally? Are you sure? How do you know? Join Seena Hodges (The Woke Coach) for an engaging, intimate interaction about allyship, privilege and responsibility. Paid Family and Medical Leave Town Hall
Jan

Paid Family and Medical Leave Town Hall

Women make up nearly half of Minnesota’s labor force (48 percent) and more than one-quarter of its business owners (27 percent).  However only 13% of Minnesota workers have access to paid family and medical leave. That means women are forced to face impossible choices when new children are born or adopted and when serious personal or family health needs inevitably arise.

As workers struggle to balance caregiving with their job responsibilities, many end up facing economic hardship. Caregiving demands may even lead to effects felt across years or a lifetime due to lost jobs, missed raises, and reduced Social Security benefits. Employers, especially small rural ones, are also struggling to attract and retain good workers in competition with larger metro area employers that can afford to offer such benefits. Our current system has failed and is costly to workers, their families, businesses, and our economy. It’s time to modernize our workplace standards and benefits.

At this townhall, we'll hear from experts/Moms/business owners and advocates about ways to address this and policy solutions that would provide paid family leave to all Minnesotans.

Speakers:

Stephanie Hogansen, from the Children's Defense Fund MN

Margi Scott, from Take12

Alex West Steinman from The Coven

Learning to Code!

Adults can learn to Code with TKP (Teaching Kids Programming) Courseware! In this interactive workshop, absolute beginner programmers (adults) can try out the free lessons from the non-profit TKP (www.teachingkidsprogramming.org). TKP has worked with teachers and kids world-wide for over 11 years. Although, the courseware is designed to introduce kids ages 10 and up to core computation concepts via Logo-style (turtle) programming, we have found that it's a fun way for adult 'non-programmers' to try out coding in a safe, fun format.

In this group format, the visiting teachers will lead small groups to work together to have fun and experience coding.

Demystifying Death: Informed Beginnings Make Peaceful Endings

“How strange this fear of death is! We are never frightened at a sunset.”

- George MacDonald, scholar & author

Well George, quotes are nice, but as boss witches, most of us want facts & options to help us decide on a course of action. And when it comes to death & dying, facts can be a little hard to come by. Death is a topic that so many of us were raised to avoid talking about, or perhaps only discuss in whispers. As we approach a time of year full up of traditions related to honoring our past and reflecting on what’s to come, The Coven is proud to present “Demystifying Death” - an open forum to provide information about:

  • Legal documents that can help your loved ones feel confident in honoring your wishes and attending to your affairs & how those documents are used after death

  • Resources that can make planning for long term care less overwhelming

  • Conscious dying choices and how to carry your values through your end of life

  • Conflict resolution paths related to family conflict that can arise around death & dying

The Coven welcomes our lawyer friends Emily Buchholz from Davis Law Office and Brenna Galvin from Maser Law as well as conscious dying and conflict resolution practitioners Leora and Eli Effinger-Weintraub for a short program and an open Q&A.
