Vinyasa Flow + Vino with Women in Digital

Coven members are invited to the exclusive Women in Digital members-only gathering for networking, yoga and wine class. Join for one hour of vinyasa flow to help you unwind from your busy day and a wine tasting class by Spillery Creative.

How often do we allow ourselves to turn off the noise and focus on our bodies and our minds? Because we are so plugged in all day long, this event is about seeking solace in a tech-free zone. In our yoga practice, embrace the quiet ambience and allow yourself to tune into your soul through body and mind. In wine class, we will be inspired by winemakers who use minimal technology and intervention to create natural wines that are pretty damn tasty, too.

This event is open to women and non-binary folks who are members of Women in Digital and/or members of the Coven, offering a great opportunity to connect with each other, learn what Women in Digital is all about.

About The Instructors:

Lilly Zabrowski is a Minneapolis native and mama of two boys who has been practicing yoga for over twelve years. She also teaches at Blooma, and is passionate about serving women, especially young moms. Other loves include wine and kick-ass women, so she's pretty excited about this event.

Lisa Priest’s passion for wine led her from London to Argentina to California, where she enjoyed sampling grapes on bike rides through vineyards. Now, she brings the stories of the people and places behind great wines to Minnesota, and helps people discover the wines that speak to them.

About Women in Digital Twin Cities:

Your digital talent makes you one of the most powerful women on the planet. Together, we join to share knowledge, to inspire each other and to become empowered by that strength. Our mission is to connect women in digital through engaging and educational events and to enable them with the confidence and tools necessary to exchange their power. More about Women in Digital here.

The Coven + AAICM Present: A Minneapolis Starlet: Hilda Simms

In 1944 Hilda Simms, a young woman from North Minneapolis, waited in the wings of the Mansfield Theater on Broadway. She was about to make her first appearance on Broadway and in doing so, she would help to shape Broadway history. Anna Lucasta was the first Broadway play to feature an all-black cast with a plot that did not center on racial themes.

Hilda's starring role as Anna Lucasta was just the beginning for this intellectual and creative woman. Hilda's move to New York in the 1940s would lead to a career on Broadway and in Hollywood where she was not only a brilliant actress, but a civil rights activist. In fact, her activism landed on her on the Hollywood Blacklist.

Join us for an evening with the African American Interpretive Center of Minnesota to learn about this Minneapolis starlet with a screening of Hilda Simms’ film work, a presentation on her life and work, and a Q&A with Hilda’s niece, Nannette Moses.

Tickets are available with an optional donation. All proceeds will benefit the AAICM.

The Coven + Haus of Ojas Present: Self-Care as a Ritual

There’s a lot of buzz about “self-care” and how it can help you navigate everyday stresses. But, what does self-care really mean? And how are you supposed to find time for it? The “Self-Care As Ritual” session dispels myths about the self-care trend while giving you ideas on how to get started (and sustain) meaningful self-care. You’ll learn about ancient self-care rituals, like garshana (dry-brushing), self ahbyanga (hot oil massage), and nadi shodhan pranayama (alternate nostril breathing), but we’ll also discuss radically simple ways to take care of yourself (like going to the bathroom when you need to, drinking water, and making time for nourishing meals). In our fast-paced, high-demand culture, the creation of self-care rituals (both involved and simple) allows us to thrive and show up as the best versions of ourselves. If you’re in need of inspiration and grounding when it comes to your own daily rhythms, this session is for you.

The Coven is thrilled to be kicking off our partnership with the Activate Network, a network of women of color business owners, entrepreneurs, and total bosses. The Activate Network was founded by Camille Thomas (yep, THE Camille Thomas from Fearless Commerce) and exudes everything The Coven stands for: an intersectional group of dynamic,  empowering women empowering other women. We are overjoyed to kick off our first monthly session in partnership with the incredible women from Activate Network, please join us in welcoming them warmly to our community.

Often we hang on to things that no longer serve us: relationships, clothing, self-image issues, etc. We cling to who we used to be not because it makes us happy, but because we simply don’t know how to choose differently.

This invigorating session features Char Dobbs, an unstoppable force packaged up in the form of a personal stylist and empowerment coach;  and Vie Boheme, a renaissance woman and performer who’s talent knows no end. Hold space with us as we unpack what it means to find and consciously choose joy in the midst of self-doubt and the pressure to do what’s expected. Take notes as two dynamos share how they’ve learned to challenge the status quo personally and professionally in the name of happiness, self-love, and self-expression.

Leadership and Risk Taking with Shawn Judge

In this tme of uncertainity, doing things the way they’ve always been done is “the most risky thing you can probably do.” Innovation and competing at the top of your game requires risk-taking to uncover great ideas, motivate your employees or team members, and move your company and yourself to the next level of success.

We measure risk based on how comfortable we are with the potential outcomes or consequences. The higher the perceived personal risk, the less likely we are to take on the challenge. The less perceived risk there is, the more likely we are to make decisions. Risk-taking means bedcoming comfortable with uncertainty and the possibility of failure.

Leadership and Risk-Taking is an interactive seminar wherein you will learn:

  • Why we don’t take risks;

  • The four phases of fear;

  • How to turn negative thinking into positive thinking;

  • How to transform risk into opportunity; and

  • Steps to help you prepare for risk-taking.

Self-reflection and partner exercises, as well as, small-and large-group discussions and video will be utilized during this seminar.

Together, we will explore how risk-taking can improve the quality of our lives, professionally and personally.

Leveled Workshop: Shout-Outs & Standing Out: Leading Meetings with Strength

We’ve all heard the tales of the “amplification” approach practiced by female staffers in Obama’s White House. The concept was simple: if a woman made a key point in a meeting, another woman would repeat that point, giving credit to the original point-maker, thereby ensuring the idea was neither ignored nor co-opted. We, for one, think that is genius - so genius that we took that theory - added in the power skills of meeting facilitation and driving collaborative conversations - and built a workshop around it. We’ll discuss and practice communications skills for acknowledging and amplifying the contributions of others, leading & facilitating conversations where all voices are heard, and managing disagreement into a constructive conversation.
